BLARNEY CASTLE

Ink

This partially ruined 15th-century fortress set among its rolling green landscaped grounds, is located near Cork City in Ireland and is famous for housing the Blarney Stone. “The Stone of Eloquence”- was set into the parapet of this castle in which folklore claims properties that bestow eloquent speech to anyone who kisses the stone.

INK WASH DRAWINGS

Inspired by ink drawings of the Masters and technique on a trip to Europe.

Leonardo da Vinci's drawings were highly analytical, scientific, and mathematically precise.  Michelangelo used crosshatching to emphasize hard muscular form and sculpture like mass.  Rembrandt drawings were visceral focusing on drama, mood and the behavior of light rather than perfection.  Rembrandt used bleeding, watery pools of ink to dissolve hard edges and capture fleeting atmosphere.

David Kizziar is known for his monochromatic drawings, he creates these ink drawings using the bare paper as his brightest light source, using brown archival ink, each with different diluted values of ink mixed with water, “wash”, to capture tonal sensitivity and create movement and mood.
